Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!

The Tim Burton classic Beetlejuice is one of my favorite movies of all time. I remember going to see it in the theater with my mom when in first came out in 1988. I was about 12 years old, the same age as my daughter. We hadn’t even seen a movie trailer, just saw the title and heard the creepy music. Now I watch it every Halloween. (Even though my love for black and white stripes and Tim Burton is year round.)

I really wanted to do a Halloween themed photoshoot this year and I thought to myself the other day, why not Beetlejuice! Then I thought why not a glam Beetlejuice inspired look? I had absolutely no time to put something together though. August, September and October have been crazy busy and I’ve either been out of the house on shoots or behind the computer editing. I remembered seeing a post from one of my former senior rep models, Kailie, saying that she was going to pursue a career as a makeup artist and thought well maybe if I find time, I’ll call her and ask if she wanted to play around with some makeup. I stayed busy and just a week before Halloween I thought, it’s just not going to happen this year, but then while out on a shoot in Crown Point (in an alley), who comes walking up but Kailie! The cherry on top was that she had on some makeup for Halloween that was almost exactly what I had in mind for the look! I couldn’t believe it. It was so serendipitous!

Almost everything from the shoot was stuff I already had at home. I think the only thing I bought was some green hair color and green spider webbing. I intentionally tried for some spooky lighting. I used a green gel for one of my flashes to imitate some of the lighting from the movie. I could have gone crazy if I had more time and created more props and tried a Lydia Deetz look. Maybe next year. For now, I was just so happy I got to play around with this theme. Kailie did an amazing job on her hair and makeup! She nailed the look. I definitely think she looks like a Beetle-Babe!
